Gwarzo is a distinguished Stockbroker and expert in Capital Finance. He possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the esteemed Bayero University, Kano. In 1991, he furthered his education at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom, where he earned a postgraduate degree in Development Finance. Gwarzo is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers and became a Fellow of the Institute in 2005.
Throughout his career, which spans nearly three decades, he has contributed significantly to the Nigerian Capital Market both as an operator and a regulator. This is demonstrated by the prestigious institutions he has served during his professional tenure, including the Ministry of Trade, Kano State; the Nigerian Stock Exchange; Century Merchant Bank Limited; Empire Securities Limited; the Securities and Exchange Commission; the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria; and MTL Global Investment Limited.
Gwarzo has participated in numerous local and international courses, such as The Securities Market Regulation, a leading global training program in securities regulation by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission; Development of Bonds Markets in Johannesburg, South Africa; Asset-Backed Securities and Mortgage Securitization in Singapore; Operational and Credit Risk Management in Dubai; and Advanced Management Programs (AMPS) at INSEAD, the premier management institute in Europe, located in Paris, as well as at the SAID Business School, Templeton College, University of Oxford, UK.
Umar Pate graduated with a degree in Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and was offered an immediate teaching position within the Department after completing his National Youth Service.
Umar Pate achieved the rank of Professor of Mass Communication at the young age of 36 and served as a senior lecturer at Bayero University Kano (BUK). During his tenure, he was instrumental in transforming the Department of Mass Communication into a comprehensive Faculty of Communication and became its inaugural Dean. He established a modern radio station, initiated plans for a contemporary television station, and secured significant funding from the MacArthur Foundation to support broadcast services on the BUK campus. Pate also held the position of Dean of the Postgraduate Studies program at the Kano-based university prior to his appointment as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Kashere, located in Gombe State.
As President of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN), Prof. Pate advocates for social accountability through investigative journalism and is a prominent figure in enhancing capacity through the revision of the journalism curriculum in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions to address emerging trends. His academic work is frequently cited both locally and internationally, covering fields such as crisis communication, political communication, communication policies, media freedom, development communication, health communication, and peace and conflict communication.
Professor Pate has contributed to the United Nations system in Afghanistan, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Cameroon, and has served on the Board of Directors of the International Network of UNESCO Professors in Communication (ORBICOM). Additionally, he has been a consultant for various multilateral organizations including USAID, UNFPA, UNICEF, UNESCO, the World Bank, and the Ford Foundation, among others. It is noteworthy that he maintains a strong connection to his cultural heritage, holding the title of Kaigama of Adamawa State, which designates him as one of the Kingmakers of the state. Professor Pate has authored over 66 national and international publications across various regions of the world. Notably, as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Kashere, he has been honored with numerous awards, including the "Award of Excellence for Service to Humanity" by the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).
Hafsat, a skilled mediator and an accomplished corporate lawyer, has amassed years of experience by working with both prestigious law firms and diverse corporate organizations. Her expertise spans several crucial areas within corporate law, such as corporate governance, litigation practice, and thorough compliance reviews.
Given her extensive experience, serving as the legal adviser for IPC or any other organization presents new opportunities for her to explore. Hafsat views this position not merely as a professional role but as an enriching journey of continuous learning and personal growth.
